SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

The Medical Assistant will be responsible for assisting the administrative and clinical duties at Northshore Medical & Aesthetics Center. They are responsible for:


  1. Obtaining patient records and test results;

  2. Coordinating daily administrative tasks;

  3. Proactively preparing treatment rooms for physicians;

  4. Assisting physicians during medical procedures.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Works under the supervision of the Medical Practitioner and Practice Administrator

  • Welcome patients by greeting them in person or on the telephone

  • Verify patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, confirming purpose of visit

  • Prepare patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room

  • Perform preliminary physical tests; take blood pressure, weight, pulse, height, and temperature; report patient history summary

  • Conduct pre-visit planning for all patient due into the practice prior to their scheduled appointment

  • Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential

  • Counsel patients by transmitting physician's orders and questions about any medical history

  • Educate patients by providing medication and diet information and instructions; answering questions based on the physician’s directive

  • Schedule diagnostic and surgery appointments by making arrangements with the applicable center, verifying times with patients and preparing charts, pre-admission and consent forms

  • Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations; take appropriate action if standards are not met.

  • Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, verifying receipt

  • Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs

  • Complete records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results

  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations

  • Collection of specimens as directed

  • Assist Medical Practitioners in emergency management of patients.

  • Contribute to new ideas to improve patient care

  • Arrange patient appointments as deemed necessary

  • Act as a support and share good practices and health and safety standards with other Medical Assistants.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS


  • Direct Report: Practice Manager

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS


  • College education, high school diploma, or equivalent; Medical Assistant Certification preferred.

  • Minimum of one year experience in an outpatient medical clinic or hospital, medical office setting

  • An understanding of patient care, medical terminology, coding procedures, reference tools and appropriate clinical pharmacology within the medical assistant scope of practice

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills and proactive.

  • Familiarity with electronic medical healthcare record systems.
